WIRED "Danger Room" Probes Old Psychic Research

Noah Shachtman at WIRED's "Danger Room" blog has uncovered a few old projects while digging through the online archives of the Defense Technical Information Center.

Title : NEW CORRELATION BETWEEN A HUMAN SUBJECT AND A QUANTUM MECHANICAL RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR,

Abstract : It is generally assumed that experiments involving statistical processes can always be designed in such a way that the outcome is independent of the experimenter. In order to test this basic assumption a series of experiments was performed with carefully designed apparatus whose central feature is a device utilizing a quantum process to generate random numbers modulo 4. The random number generator is connected to four lamps and four corresponding pushbuttons. Pressing any one of the four buttons triggers a quantum process and produces a random number, which is indicated by the lighting of one of the four lamps. The system is designed such that there should be no correlation between the number (1..4) of the button pressed and the number (1..4) of the lamp lighted, and furthermore, no correlation between successively generated random numbers. A large number of human subjects were asked to press the buttons manually with the objective in mind of obtaining a high number of coincidences (hits), i.e., events where the lamp next to the pressed button lights. From the results, it is tentatively concluded that there exists a weak but significant correlation between the statistical processes operative in these experiments and the experimenter who initiates the processes.

Title : GROUP NORMS AND DISSONANCE REDUCTION IN BELIEF, BEHAVIOR, AND JUDGMENT

Descriptive Note : Technical rept.

Corporate Author : CALIFORNIA UNIV LOS ANGELES DEPT OF PSYCHOLOGY

Personal Author(s) : Raven, Bertram H. ; Anthony, Edwin ; Mansson, Helge H.

Report Date : 20 DEC 1960

Abstract : Forty-four female subjects met in groups of four, each in a separate booth, and were asked to report whether or not they received 'ESP images' which were presumably projected by a 'sender' in another room. Half the Ss, in a control condition, were unaware of the responses of others. For the others, in the experimental condition, a device similar to that utilized by Deutsch and Gerard gave each subject the impression that the other three Ss had received images on 23 of 30 trials. It was found that, particularly, in the control condition, reported reception of ESP images was a function of one's initial belief in ESP. The experimental situation was analyzed in terms of a theory of dissonance reduction.

Title : Photon Quenching of the Paranormal (Time) Channel: A Brief Note,

Corporate Author : SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT CORP HUNTSVILLE ALA

Report Date : 20 APR 1977

Pagination or Media Count : 10

Abstract : The photon interaction constitutes a time-differentiating operation imposed upon nonobjective, 'paranormal', 4-dimensional spacetime reality, resulting in normal, 3-dimensional, spatial, 'objective' reality, as shown by the two-slit experiment. Since mind occupies the same 'objective' time dimension occupied by physical phenomena, then mind is objective. A mind may then be modelled as an ordinary physical 4-space frame or world co-temporal with the ordinary laboratory 4-space, but spatially separated from it by three or more orthogonal spatial rotations away in a higher dimensional n-space containing only a single time axis. Dynamic phenomena in such a mind world project minute crosstalk vectors (inception) into the real physical world and vice versa; these are normally so minute as to be virtual. One-to-one correspondence established in the two channels of crosstalk between a mind world and a physical structure in the laboratory frame constitutes a living biological system. Time coherent collection of inception is an exponential effect (a function of the number of coherent stages) rather than linear; thus multistage time coherence can provide amplification sufficient to physically materialize a mental phenomenon if the paranormal channel (time channel) is intact and not squelched by photon interaction. Tulpas may then be objectified in a reality format determined by the modulations by all successive layers or unconsciousness between the collective unconscious and the personal conscious.
